Letter: Will you stand?

Dear Brothers in Christ,
As many of you may already know, the city of Chattanooga is in a battle for what is morally right and acceptable in the sight of God. In a few more days, there will be a public hearing in the city on the issue of granting health benefits to same sex and domestic partner relationships who are employed by the city of Chattanooga.

Gentlemen, this is our time to stand. God has allowed each of us the opportunity to shine the light of truth. While many of us have preached against the wickedness of sexual immorality from our pulpits, today we have the awesome responsibility of standing for truth outside the walls of our churches.

In my five years of living and ministering in this city, I have never asked anything of you men other than your prayers, but today I ask for your help. Will you stand with me on Tuesday, November 5 at 3 PM in the Chattanooga City Council building? Will you speak to the issue before the council?

This week, I was one of about 5 preachers who stood publicly for truth and righteousness in our city. With hundreds of churches in the Chattanooga metro area, there is no reason why a multitude of preachers shouldn’t take the time to stand for the truth of the Bible we preach. Please pray and inform your people to contact the council person in their district. Above all, please take this opportunity to stand, publicly and unashamedly for truth. I have no doubt that those in favor of sin will be represented in great number.

Ephesians 6:13-Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

For His Glory,

Pastor Shad Smith
